The Solarian was a hundred meters high and, at its broadest point, 20 meters in diameter (that's approximately 111 yards x 22 yards, for those who haven't adapted the communist bloc system of weights and measures). It was designed to carry an initial crew of ten people: 5 men, 5 women, with provision for subsequent children. No member of the crew, male or female, could regard himself as a separate entity, an individual personality. Each was a part of a total life-unit, a dedicated nucleaus that might one day bring forth a new human race.
