Her community didn't believe in advanced technology for the sake of it. It had caused the death of Old Earth. Old Earth over polluted and over worked, it had been dying. Taking much of the population with it. The seas rising, land lost, her ancestors had sort a new world, a new chance of life as part of Earth Corps colonisation program. And it had cost them everything. Their credits, their DNA and servitude to Earth Corp for 100 years of mining mineral rights. In exchange for a contract of exchanged goods every 20 years to support the new colony while they mined for them.
Arriving in their new world, they used what they had to meet their obligation and once over removed themselves from all technology. Or most of it. They didn't want it. Only wishing to live in peace and harmony with the world itself.
Not that all the original colonists believed in that, they didn't.
But for those that did, decision made, her ancestors group struck out on their own rejecting the lifestyle that had been thrust upon them. They would live a cleaner life. A simpler one. One that did not damage the world but enhance it.
Wanting to keep their footprint small. They used what they needed to and went old school. With good soil, water and animals, they had all they needed and kept to themselves. Sharing with their neighbours no one went hungry. They helped and cared for each other, working for the whole.
With their history visits from outside were not encouraged. The Cyborgs arriving caused a stir. The first off-worlders theyd ever seen. Her people unsure how to deal with it. When the request came to meet, the elders agreed to listen. That didn't mean, they'd agree to do anything.....
