But back on Old Earth it had.
A revival of the old faiths with the Earth dying gave solace to so many. What had once been a Christian faith diminishing, had been thriving by the time they left. Many joining the Colonisation Program owned by Earth Corp.

That's how desperate thousands were.
And 400 years later, the contract to Earth Corp long gone here they were, celebrating a Christian event. Not that everyone was Christian in faith but they celebrated the event anyway. Besides, there was no room on colonisation ships for a leader of faith. They didn’t mine.

Sent to ensure the colony survived to produce their 100 years of minerals, after that, Earth Corp would withdraw their support leaving the colony to survive. Agreeing 5 resupplies Earth Corp only came 4. No one knew why. With no long-range communications they had no way of finding out. On the 5th resupply the Cyborgs should have been returned but that didn't happen. And here they still were.
Still training, still guarding, still patrolling.
No longer held to the programming since Earth Corp failed to retrieve them they evolved too. Thinking for themselves, making decisions in a military way. Their training still with them. It was, all they had left. As their leader, he worked with one human leader after another as their time came and went. Accepting the new leader as part of their council.
The years drifting only broken by such human festivals and events. They remained part of the community but in the shadows. Watching and waiting to see if they'd ever be needed again. Taking the role of emergency responders they had attended many incidents over the hundreds of years helping to keep the humans safe.
