At the Battle of Poison Spring in the War between the States, a Union bluebelly shot Brazos’s friend Pete Benson. Brazos carries Pete across the battlefield to a field hospital where a doctor tends to his wounds. Brazos is discharged from the army, but before he leaves, he extracts a promise from Pete to join him when he is well again.
Brazos heads for California to visit his sister with his two Northern Mescalero Apache
blood brothers Running Wolf and Fox Eyes. However, in Albuquerque, he gets sidetracked and engages in several shootouts with outlaws and disgruntled cowboys. When his deputy is shot, the sheriff, now shorthanded, deputizes Brazos, who finds himself indefinitely detained in the wild, growing town. It appears Brazos is destined to remain there, but while there, he perfects the gun-fanning technique his uncle taught him. Romantic entanglements with a beautiful girl further delay his leaving for California.
Will Brazos make it to California? Or is he fated to remain in Albuquerque? And will he make it out alive? Find out in
