Queen Johanna destroyed the House of Frazer at Dundallon, after the murder of James I. Innes Frazer, step-sister to Sir Archibald, escaped but was captured by a band of beggars. The leader of the beggars, Ruari Stewart, offers her as a bride to Glenallyn. Innes refuses, only to become a servant of the Queen at Edinburgh Castle, where she again meets James Livingstone who was responsible for slaughtering the Frazers. Innes knows that she must find Ruari Stewart, and one day she might become Glenallyn's bride.
