A BRAND-NEW CRIME THRILLER SET IN YORKSHIRE FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR EMMY ELLIS.

A battered body is discovered in a field at Hawthorn Farm. The victim is Maureen Frost, a well-known elderly villager, and her death shocks the tight-knit community to its core.

As a fellow resident of the pretty village of Upton-cum-Studley, Detective Inspector Anna James knows Maureen. She
also knows Maureen and her husband Albert have been locked in a long-standing feud with Toby Potter.

Toby has been in love with Maureen for over fifty years. They were going to get married — until Maureen met Albert and began seeing him behind Toby’s back.

Albert’s far from the perfect husband. He’s controlling and has a sinister streak of his own . . .

To understand the present, Anna must look to the past.

But her head’s not in the game. She’s desperately trying to suppress her growing feelings for handsome but roguish gang member Joshua ‘Parole’ Cribbins. And going undercover to expose a mole within the police force tied to the powerful Northern Kings gang makes it almost impossible.

Anna must focus. She’s about to walk into the lion’s den. Will she make it out alive . . . ?

This utterly gripping crime thriller is perfect for fans of Martina Cole, Angela Marsons, Helen H. Durrant and Charlie Gallagher.

Please note this book contains themes of baby loss that some readers may find upsetting.

THE DETECTIVE
DI Anna James is balanced, level-headed and diligent. Her colleagues joke that she can be blunt and to the point, but in her line of work, that helps her get results. She went into the police force because she loves the Famous Five and Scooby Doo — the idea of solving crimes for a living was thrilling! Her home is as immaculate as her desk, preferring to keep things minimal so there’s less things to dust and tidy. She’s single and in her forties. She doesn’t like going on nights out and prefers to stay at home and read.
