Born during the latter years of the last century, Thaddeus Noggin is destined to join the other cottagers of Marling Hamlet in a life of service at the Big House. He is ordered one day to transport the baskets of roses from the hot houses. Their beauty astounds him, and commits him to furthering their glory.
