Templeton Kane is a minor lord from a failed house, a rogue, an amateur troubadour, and an opportunist. Lill is a muscular barbarian from the Glacial Wastes. She's also an Ink Mage. After their adventures in The Murder Blossom, Templeton and Lill now find themselves on the run from the mysterious Shadow Sorceress. Why? Because Lill has stolen the secrets of a special Shadow Tattoo ... except it's not quite a tattoo but some new magic. So Lill and Templeton flee to Klaar in search of a wizard who can help decipher this new magic. While in Klaar, Templeton meets the daughter of the duke, a young lady with ambitions of her own. But the Shadow Sorceress ... she's out there.
