I ordered this book and the other by William Lindsay Gresham to read and to get a sense of what kind of man Joy Davidman was married to. She who later married C.S.Lewis. William Lindsay Gresham died a suicide -- his cynicism and despair overwhelming him. This book, which is really quite good, illustrates his nihilism and cynicism. Standing alone the story is gripping; it is a historical piece about t.b. treatment in the early 50's and late 1940's; before the current drugs for this illness were developed. I am old enough to remember acquaintances being sent off for "the long cure" in isolation from their families and communities. I believe this book might be out of print...but it is worth being put back into print as a curious classic of its time.
