Isabelle Holland was born in Basel, Switzerland. She died on Feb. 9, 2002 in New York City. Her first book wasn't published until she was in her 40's but she was still writing into her 80's when she died.

Her papers and manuscripts were contributed to the Kerlan Collection at the University of Minnesota.
