Then Ifor remarries, and Sara's new stepmother is a hard taskmaster who considers everything Sara does inadequate or wicked. When she meets Rhys Edwards, nephew of the owner of the bakery where she works, Sara falls in love for the first time. Finally she has a way to escape. Rhys and Sara plan to make a life together in Cardiff, but Sara finds herself alone, pregnant and destitute. She has to face the hardest times of her life and fight for herself, Myfanwy, and her unborn child, before happiness is finally within her reach ...
