Polly: A lot had happened in a few months. She’d left the city she’d grown up in, moved to South Dakota with her eldest sister and younger sister, and left again immediately after Florence’s wedding. A smile curved her lip as she reflected on how quickly her sister had changed her mind. Florence had been set on not getting married, then she’d met a wonderful man and all had changed. Love, Polly mused. Love truly does change people.

Now she would be reunited with 2 of her sisters in Crescent City. Polly was excited to be here to wait the arrival of her first niece or nephew. And then, maybe, it would be her turn to head out and find the man of her dreams…..her “happily ever after”.

Oh….wouldn’t it be a wonderful if her dream man was here? Here, where she wouldn’t have to be separated from her sisters once again……Maybe…..

Phil: He longed for normalcy – anything that would make him look forward to the future with hope. When Helen told him about her sister, it felt just right. No – it seemed right. If all fell into place, he’d have the life he wanted. A flourishing business, a wife, a future, an escape from the past.

Taking Helen’s offer meant he was spared the drudgery of finding the perfect wife. Then he met Winnie. Winnie had the qualities he wanted: responsible, kind, beautiful. One thing was lacking: attraction. Then Winnie broke off the courtship, and he was relieved. He had never resumed the search for a wife.

As soon as he’d seen a stranger in a lovely yellow dress and he’d been smitten. Phil shook his head, stacking his luggage on the horse. When was the last time he’d been immediately besotted by the sight of a woman? He could hardly remember.

There was something oddly familiar about her too…
