Her occasional nightmares of that day are changing, becoming more vivid, sometimes leaving her with a sense of peace. Why is this new worker at the ranch reminding her of her nightmares?
Troys rich, wicked, older brother (former Union officer) imprisons him until he goes through with an arranged marriage. But his heart belongs to Ruth, even though she doesnt know it yet. Will he escape and return to Darnell Farms? If so, what trouble will his brother cause them?
Mrs. Farley has been embarrassed for the last time, stripped of her authority and dignity. Vowing to bring shame and disgrace to the Darnells, she finds a prime opportunity to strike.

Seasons Of Change
During the five years since the Civil War ended, the community was busy rebuilding and trying to survive, with the children working hard alongside their parents. The school had been destroyed, along with most of their town, and for several years, there was no school and no one was teaching the children how to be young ladies and gentlemen...until the local busy-body took matters into her own hands, causing trouble for everyone.
The teenagers were miserable and knew their lives had changed forever. Propriety and manners were being taught hard and fast.
Troy was a young drifter who had been orphaned at age 12, the son of wealthy Pennsylvania parents. He had spent a year in an orphanage, waiting for his older brother, Kent, a Union officer, to get word of his situation and come claim him. He traveled with his brother's army all the way to Southwest Virginia during the war, and then on to Oklahoma to live with relatives. Witnessing so much devastation, he was sure it would haunt his mind forever.
Moving to North Carolina as a young adult, he claimed Oklahoma as his home due to tensions between Yankees and Rebels. He was able to secure a job at Darnell Farm. He became best friends with the oldest Darnell boy, Nate, and was enjoying life for the first time, being fully accepted by the community. He was finally living a normal life and was starting to have eyes for Ruth, until his brother found out he was consorting with Rebels and forced him to come back to Pennsylvania. Troy's loyalty to the Darnells by far exceeded the feelings of guilt his brother tried to force on him. Not being able to entice Troy with social acceptance and status, Kent imprisons Troy in his mansion until he goes through with an arranged marriage.
Between Kent and the busy-body back in North Carolina trying to arrange a marriage for Ruth, they don't know if they will ever be able to explore the feelings they were starting to have for each other.
Through a chain of unforeseen events, including a reverse Underground Railroad and a boarding house in Alabama, God shows up and takes control of the situation, leading the two back together.
Overcoming all their obstacles, Ruth notices that Troy's eyes remind her of something unsettling. He has the same eyes as the young boy in her recurring nightmare. Her memories start to return of the day her parents were murdered, and she doesn't know if she can live with what she is remembering. She puts all thoughts of a blossoming romance on hold...
