Cut off from the rest of the world, the dwindling community pulls together trying to survive, wondering at times if they had the strength.
Protecting their children prodded them forward as they continued crying out for mercy from God.
With most of the men gone fighting battles in the war, the women are left to defend themselves, their families and property. The seemingly defenseless women are under attack from every side. Not only does the army come through and destroy every farm and half the town, but marauders and outlaws follow behind, scavenging anything left.
Thanks to Mr. Farley’s foresight, the men didn’t leave their women and families as defenseless and unprepared as strangers would think. Though times are almost unbearable, the community of women and children bond together to survive��they have no other choice.
Cut off from the rest of the world, no mail, news, telegraph or transportation in or out, they had to rely on each other and God to get them through.
But things get much worse before the war ends…
Tragedy strikes the Darnells in many ways, leaving heartbreak and destruction from Virginia to Alabama. Some lives are changed forever, some lives are lost.
