STRANGE INHERITANCE
Sam Taylor and Matthew Wain are fifty when they find out their father has died and has left them a considerable fortune. This is a pleasant surprise but it is not the only one. Both Sam and Matthew were brought up by different mothers, one in the USA and the other in the UK. And until now, they had no idea that they had a sibling.
They meet in London and go to Stratford-upon-Avon to take a look at the apartment which now belongs to them jointly. They have no intention of remaining for long, perhaps no intention of even keeping it. Yet the apartment, part of an ancient country house, soon casts a spell over them and they decide to stay.
And once they do they discover that the residents are somewhat unusual. The house is owned by Carolyn Masters, an elderly movie star and baroness, who runs the house with the aid of her major-domo, Kirk. Their nearest neighbours are the inquisitive Valerie Pencil, hard up and happy go lucky, Major Charles Fawcett (Retired) who is haunted by Evelyn Birch, friend of no one, enemy to all. There are a young couple obsessed by aliens, a gardener who was once roadie to the Beatles and lecturer at the Slade, two sisters, one a psychic, the other a dominatrix and the mysterious Bill Dangerfield.
And then, of course, there was the fact that their apartment was once lived in by a murderer.
