After her father's death, Jane Terrill finds herself part owner of extensive Australian property, and with her uncle and aunt, the co-heirs, she travels to Australia. On the way, she befriends two children and their widowed father, Simon Sandford. A remarkable chance saves Jane from the disaster which overtakes her aunt and uncle, and she settles on her estates with Simon. But her happiness is soon under threat. In the end, her own life is at stake, and she has to face the truth about others - and herself.
