Phoebe Redan might have looked like a demure mid-Victorian miss, but she was also a woman of action. When she surprised her fiance in a compromising situation, she immediately arranged to join her brother, a goldfields magnate, in the Australian bush. However, when she finally arrived at the mining camp, she learnt that Philip Redan had mysteriously vanished.
