The fate of Julian’s people resides within every seed he earns.
Julian Thorne had a wonderful life, one filled with friends, family, and an education in Azgarthe, the magi academy located in his hometown called Beachlight. That was before the war. No one deemed the orcs a threat until they swept across Aliria, conquering every city and town in their path. Their warlocks cursed the lands to slow crop growth to a crawl, and every capable magi was executed while the survivors looked on in horror. Julian’s parents included.
The war ended ten years ago, but Beachlight, like every town and city, never recovered. Julian struggled like everyone else, but his job as an assistant to the town’s curator, Phil Hamilton, offered him housing and just enough food to get by. It was a pointless job given that the curator was charged with protecting the town’s spell books and artifacts, items that the orcs destroyed or stole before they left, but it was all Julian had. The job remained pointless until Phil Hamilton mysteriously left with his family in the middle of the night, leaving Julian to fill his shoes.
Exploring the curator’s tower revealed a secret, one that turned his life on its ear. Twelve stories below the surface stood a vale, one with a powerful guardian, Mekiko. The kitsune used to teach chloromancy to Julian’s ancestors, but her presence became lost over time. Accepting her offer to learn magic would mean his death should the orcs find out. In fact, it could spell doom for the rest of the town’s population. It was either a swift death by an axe, or the slow death of starvation since no one could produce enough food for their people. To Julian, it didn’t feel like a choice, not when everyone he knew struggled to live.
Learning chloromancy didn’t involve sitting in a classroom though. Julian learned the craft by entering an obritrix, a dimension between worlds that held spirits trapped by foul magic, forcing him to defeat enemies ranging from small bogglings to powerful sea naga priestesses. His rewards were seeds, seeds that offered power, new spells, bountiful crops, or, in some cases, plants that could grow attractive companions to aid his quest.
Chloromancy offered something to Julian he never had before. Hope. Hope that he could become powerful enough to feed his people, and hope that he could someday deal with the orcs plaguing the world. The obritrix were challenging, but not as challenging as making sure that the orcs didnt discover his new power before he could rise up to face them.
Seed Master is a spicy LitRPG story that involves magic, monsters, and RPG elements often found in video games. Seed Master also contains spicy moments that are not intended for young readers.
