When it comes to jobs on an alien planet, I could have it worse. I know. I’ve seen worse. Sure I’m locked in a tower, and I’m a maidservant to some long-necked, horned alien queen with red eyes, but I’m alive and unharmed. I’m fed. I’m clothed. And no one bothers me.
I never considered myself brave. I don’t rock the boat. So when a large winged stranger is captured trying to save me from my tower, I tell myself to forget about him. Don’t ask questions. Keep my head down. But the harder I resist, the more I wonder what kind of promises he holds in his purple eyes…

I don’t regret trying to rescue the long-haired human in the tower. She thinks she’s safe as a lowly maidservant, but I know the Xaberians, and they’ll eventually chew her up and spit her out. Except now I’m in a cage heading for public execution, and the only one who can save me is the pretty human. First, I have to convince her I’m the best choice, and then I have to save both of us before it’s too late. Because either way, the Dark is coming, and nothing survives without light.
