A Story by

The fighting is winding down on the beaches of Guadalcanal, but the enemy is gathering its forces for a might counterstrike.

America must complete the airstrip on the island to fly in much needs supplies and reinforcements. The Japanese have left the construction site in chaos, and the military sends in civilian construction engineers, experts, to get the project finished in time to counter the expected hammer blow.  Disaster strikes when their C-47 is shot down by a wandering Jap Zero, and they crash land on the nearby island of Tulagi.

The Japanese still hold most of the island. Including the site of the crash landing, trapping the engineers behind enemy lines. Marine Second Platoon, C Company, gets the mission to travel by submarine and sneak in on the enemy beach, locate and bring back the trapped men.

The plan is sound, but like most plans, falls apart when the shooting starts. The Japs outnumber and outgun the Marines. Even worse, Second platoon has another battle to fight, Against the platoon commander, an Ivy League socialite more skilled at mixing martinis than leading men into battle. A recipe for disaster, and the question is will it be a minor disaster, or the most god-almighty screw-up in military history.

Counterstrike is the second shortread novel in the ‘Heroes of the Pacific’ series of fictional war stories set during World War II in the Pacific. The book is a collaboration between Todd McLeod and Eric Meyer, the bestselling author of more than fifty war novels.
