An Act of War
(1981)(Lieutenant Cameron RNVR)
(The fourth book in the Cameron series)A novel by Philip McCutchan
World War Two.
Lieutenant Donald Cameron, DSC, rapidly gaining hard-won experience on naval battle stations, is drafted to the antiquated cruiser Northumberland.
The ships task is to destroy German raiders on Allied supply routes.
When at last the old Northumberland goes down, after a gruelling battle with a German heavy cruiser, Cameron is the only executive officer left amongst the survivors in the boats - apart from his sick captain, often delirious but determined to command.
Thousands of miles from land and shipping lanes, their only hope is to be picked up by a roving warship.
None too soon, after many suffer the lingering deaths of exposure and starvation, an armed German supply ship approaches.
Taken hostage, Cameron and his men are desperate to escape the German battleship.
Can Cameron fight his German captors to keep his men alive?
Can he act as Captain when his own cannot perform?
And can he stay alive long enough to be rescued?
Praise for Philip McCutchan:
'A salty, thrilling , adventure story that takes you into the heart of WWII.' - Tom Kasey, best-selling author of 'Trade Off'.
Philip McCutchan served at sea in the Royal Navy throughout World War II. From destroyers on Atlantic and Mediterranean escort duties, to a battle-cruiser, a battleship and an ocean boarding vessel, he ended his war service in an aircraft-carrier. His interests include naval and military affairs prior to 1946.
