When Rob Ellman gets caught with his rope on a calf and his running iron in the fire, he is lucky to get away - and worried plenty. He knows he has to break with the rustler gang, and he knows he has to convince his sweetheart, May, that he is done with it all. Neither of these actions will be easy. The Red Sash boys don't forgive deserters, and even if he can get away, Rob knows, from May's own words, that there is no guarantee she will go with him.
