(The first book in the Area 51: Project series)
A Story by

It’s late 1955 and the super-secret government installation known as Area 51 in the Nevada desert has a problem. Someone has murdered two women who worked there and there's no plan in place to stop the killer – while keeping the existence of the facility secret. The Director of the new government Agency that runs Area 51 turns to his former World War II/OSS colleague who is now Chief of Detectives for the Washington Metropolitan D.C. Police Department. The Chief has just the answer for him in Detective John “Black Jack” Morrison, a talented investigator when he can stay focused. And sober.

With little guidance and no resources, Black Jack is read into the program known as “Project Sapphire” and dispatched to the middle of nowhere. His role in the project – “Identify the killer and we’ll take it from there.” The assignment is a shot at redemption and if he fails, he’s out of the police department.

Except he quickly gets sideways with his new boss by among things leaving Area 51 and engaging with outsiders including at LAPD’s famed Robbery Homicide Division, where he discovers there may be other victims of the Area 51 killer. In his quest to solve the murders, Black Jack trips into what’s really going on inside Area 51, and it involves the Roswell incident from eight years earlier.

AREA 51: Project Sapphire is a noirish police procedural worthy of the author F.X. Regan’s long experience as a police officer, retired FBI agent, and private investigator. If John “Black Jack” Morrison survives this assignment, Regan believes it won’t be long before he is dispatched back to Area 51, and additional drama.

“Only someone with F.X. Regan’s background could pull off a detailed murder investigation that involves Area 51 and the Roswell incident.” – David Temple, author and host of the hit podcast The Thriller Zone.
