Missing Baby!
When Chantal Robichaux’s infant son is stolen from the hospital hours after being born, she has no choice but to contact the baby’s father, vice cop Aidan Ross. Aidan knows nothing about the baby and hasn’t seen Chantal since she left New Jersey, after making it clear that she wanted nothing to do with him because he lied about his occupation. Considering her lie, he’s more than furious and strangely sorrowful.
Thanks to his tough cop dad, Aidan is a man who learned at an early age to hide his feelings, a trait that has served him well in his own career. With a failed marriage in his past, he doesn’t plan to get caught in a serious relationship again, but in a bizarre twist of fate, Chantal is temporarily managing her sister-in-law’s family casino at the same time he’s working undercover trying to catch a jewel thief. There’s something about the pretty, stand-offish Chantal that draws him, just as there is something about the tough “gambler” that frightens her, yet strangely makes her feel safe.
When she’s held at gunpoint by the thief, Aidan wants nothing more than to erase the fear from her face and ease her pain, and Chantal needs human contact to validate the life she almost lost. Somehow, they wind up spending two incredible days together, but when she finds out the truth about his job, no amount of explaining will budge her. He lied, and she doesn’t deal with liars.
Now she’s the one who’s lied. By omission.
Like it or not, they’re forced together to find their son. As Aidan helps the local cops with some leads, he and Chantal have plenty of time to examine their pasts and each other. Can their feelings be more than desire? Can two people who hold so much inside, two people who have such difficult pasts open their hearts enough to give love a chance, or are they both too hardhearted?
