Susan Clark Schofield wrote her first novel, REFUGIO, THEY NAMED YOU WRONG, when she was a young teenager longing for the wide open spaces of the American West. Nineteen years and one comprehensive rewrite later, she published REFUGIO to critical acclaim. TELLURIDE followed, and Schofield will soon publish a third historical novel of the West, ORION'S PREY. A runner-up for the Best First Novel award given by the Western Writers of America, REFUGIO was subsequently issued in paperback as A WANTED MAN and attracted two movie options. TELLURIDE also received excellent reviews and was later issued in paperback in both the U.S. and Germany.
Shifting focus from the Old West to contemporary Maine, Schofield's most recent novel, HORIZON BLUES, is a love story about an unexpectedly pregnant empty-nester and the reclusive guitarist she meets while deciding what to do about her forthcoming child and her unhappy marriage. Susan Clark Schofield was adopted as an infant and raised near Philadelphia. After receiving a social work degree from Penn State, she spent her early twenties in Texas, Colorado, and California before returning to the Northeast to be near family. She lived for two years in her beloved Maine, where she met and married Jeff Clark. Together they settled in the Boston area and have spent twenty-five happy years together, raising two children and an affable black dog. Besides being an author, Schofield is an avid gardener and proponent of sustainable food. She has taught writing fiction and worked in libraries and a bookstore, but her passion remains creating and sharing stories of life's trials, and the love that gets us through.
