She’s got a calling. He’s got a vendetta.
When this North and South couple meet, it just might be a war of epic proportions.

Rebecca Gaines, the daughter of a preacher, tries to patch hearts but the South is a broken land, taking more than she can give and leaving her destitute. After her father’s death, she signs up as a proxy mail-order bride. She’s left with nothing but her faith and trust in the Lord. Surely, He’ll have a good man picked out for her.

Russ Shephard had ahigh sense of purpose when he started out as a Lieutenant in the United States Cavalry, but four years in the war against the South soiled his mind and soul. He hated everything to do with the South, especially those from South Carolina, where the war started. He left the army and drifted west to Denver. One thing he’d learned in the army was cards. He threw down his values and took up gambling, hoping to fleece Southerners as they went west to escape the carpetbaggers. When he hears about a mail-order bride agency marrying women by proxy he signs up when he hears the women will come from South Carolina.
