The Name Is Savage... Dorothy Savage
(2022)(Book 115 in the Tales of the Old West series)
A novel by Paul L Thompson
U.S. Marshal Shorty Thompson is back with a brand new adventure!
Edward Savage, Ed he was called was on his way back home after paying off his mortgage on his ranch. He had taken a small bag of gold into that bank and placed it on the banker’s desk. “That’s to pay off that mortgage, and I’ll pay the rest in cash.”
“Ed, the first payment isn’t due for two more days. Where in the world did you get that much gold? Off your place I’d guess. This will be a good deal of cash. Why don’t you just deposit it?”
“Because banks get robbed, I don’t. It’s to pay the loan.”
The banker weighed the gold and counted out that money and asked, “Will there be anything else?”
“Yes, the deed to my ranch and a copy of that mortgage saying paid in full.”
“My goodness, I almost forgot that. Where did you say all this gold…?”
“I didn’t say, but southeast on Elk Mountain is where I’ve been, it was nowhere close around here.”
“Yes, yes, I see. I’d never heard of gold around here.”
A half hour later Ed had those horses running all out, firing his pistol over his shoulder at three masked men. A wild shot knocked him sideways, almost out of that buggy. As he whipped into the yard, his wife and one daughter had heard gunfire and was pumping bullets. One would be robber slumped to the side, slowed and turned his horse. The other two followed, flogging their horses back toward town.
Genre: Western
