A bright new buggy pulled to a stop in the Pascoe yard. A pretty, well dressed plump woman said, “Don’t just sit here Herman, go knock on that door.”
The driver did as he was told and Tiny Pascoe answered. “Yes, may I help you?”
“Mrs. Bloomfield wishes to speak with Mister Travis and Casey Pascoe.”
“They’re in the barn, you can ask the lady if she would like to come in while I fetch them.”
“No thank you, Mrs. Bloomfield wishes to return to Albuquerque as soon as possible.”
Tiny reached in beside the door for a rifle and popped off a shot in the air. Mrs. Bloomfield and that man almost passed out.
Travis and Casey came from that barn in a run. They saw a man standing at the front door about to crap all over himself.
Tiny pointed, “That woman wants to talk to y’all.”
They and the driver walked to the buggy. “Yes Ma’am, what do you need?”
“I want you to find Harry Woolley.”
“Who is Harry Woolley?”
“The sorriest human that ever drew a breath, and my brother. I also think at this time he has completely lost his mind and may be totally insane. I will give you five hundred dollars now and another thousand when you bring him to me.”
“Any idea where he might’a went?”
“I would think Santa Fe, Texas or even California.”
“California! Lady, not for five thousand.”
“But you would go for ten thousand.”
“Yes Ma’am, we can leave first thing in the morning if that’s soon enough.”
“It is, I will be at the Alvarado Hotel in Albuquerque. Herman we shall go now.”
