The Battle of Cairo and Other Stories
(2024)(The fourth book in the Tales of the Legion series)
A collection of stories by Tim C Taylor
Tales of the Legion. Selected short fiction from the dreams of author Tim C. Taylor.
This series combines introductory stories to all Tim C. Taylor book series with selected short fiction published in anthologies and magazines over the past quarter century. In this entry in the series, I present stories showing the background of the Human Legion Universe.
In Tales of the Legion #4:
The Battle of Cairo To save money, Earths defense force is trained and then frozen for future use. Sergeant Bloehn is revived to discover Earth has already been conquered and occupied by the brutal Hardits for a decade. Thrown into an assault on Cairo, he thinks hes part of an attempt to liberate the planet. Then he meets the mysterious Captain Greyhart who reveals a far stranger truth. The Legion is coming, and he must prepare the way.
Red Queen Humanitys second colony is at war with itself. Two genetically opposed factions; one must eventually triumph over the extinction of the other. To think each side can coexist is a false dream. But maybe there is another way.
Geometric Growth David wants to get a message to distant Earth, to explain the needless suffering on his world. Will the Earthers listen? Or do they understand more about Davids world than he could possibly imagine?
My 200-Year Extended Death Its a tragic love affair between alien lovers. Its a terrible warning of the dangers of technology. Its a wilderness adventure into the shock of the new. Its a tale of two centuries of extended death. The only question is: what happens next?
The Presidents Son Five centuries before the birth of the Human Legion, a million children were given up as tribute to our new alien overlords. All but one was picked at random, but one child was doomed by his birth to be first on the list. This is his tale. The story of the Presidents son.
The cover image is by Vincent Sammy and depicts Trooper Lily Hjon from my space opera series, Chimera Company. Vincent created this illustration for the original, episodic, version of that series. Lilys adventures take place thousands of years later and tens of thousands of lightyears distant from the stories in Tales of the Legion#4. Nonetheless, she is a direct descendant of some of the characters within.
