Mr. Midnight

(1953)
(Book 12 in the Robert Budd series)
A novel by

Gordan Cross, ace crime reporter of the Daily Clarion, is detailed by his News Editor to discover the identity of a man known as "Mr. Midnight", who is thought to be the master-mind behind well organized robberies and murders.

Cross meets a squealer, Nosey Williams who, though apprehensive, gives him a line on which to work. Acting on Nosey's information, he visits The Yellow Orchid night club, where he meets a number of people who give him cause for suspicion.

Gordan's investigations take him into barges on the river, lonely mansions, and night clubs. On every occasion one of the people he has met at The Yellow Orchid is found murdered. Interwoven in the story is the Intaglio ring, of which all the victims have knowledge.

How Gordan finally solves the mystery, with the help of his wife, Vicky, Superintendent Budd and the stranger, A. Smith, makes an enthralling narrative in the author's inimitable style.
