With the Civil War past its mid-point and the threat of an Indian war looming in the West, Captain Jacob McKenna is sent to Ft. Laramie. His undercover job is to find and stop whoever is trying to stir up the Sioux and start an Indian war.
From the beginning, the task seems insurmountable. His only contact at the fort is killed accidentally a day before he arrives. Thus he is faced with finding a man, possibly one of the officers at the fort, who is responsible for a potential war with the Sioux.
He finds the commanding officer of Ft. Laramie to have an affinity for the bottle, leaving the fort with essentially no C.O. for half of every day. And to top it off, the colonel doesn’t like him.
Having to find the one man responsible for the Indian troubles with no help may prove too daunting a task for McKenna. But he isn’t one to give up.
