A brand new Western adventure from C. Wayne Winkle!

In 2014, a Winchester Model 1873 was discovered leaning against a juniper tree in the Great Basin National Park. It had apparently been there for over a hundred years, forgotten or lost. No one knows who left the rifle or why. This story is one possible scenario.

Robert ‘Cap Nolan is without a job, having left the Army and lost a job as foreman of a ranch in Montana. The Great Die-Up of the winter of 1887-1888 ended the era of small ranches in the West.

In his wandering after the end of the job, he comes across a group of English men and women on a hunting expedition in Nevada. Hiring on with them, he goes with them to the Ruby Mountains and the Schell Creek Range in Nevada.

An old nemesis, Roland McCarty, and his gang catch up with them after robbing a mining payroll. Cap is to be killed, but kills his attackers instead. He rescues one of the English ladies and kills all of the gang except McCarty.

In a desperate attempt at escape, he leans his Winchester against a juniper tree and carries the wounded English lady down a ridge in the dark. McCarty catches up with him, but Cap kills him in a gun battle.

When he goes back to find his Winchester, he is unsuccessful.
