It's hard to live a balanced life when you're going to high school by day and stalking through cemeteries at night. Kassandra Niles doesn't particularly enjoy risking her life on a nightly basis to keep the world save from evil. Sure, she won't run from a fight. Yes, she might be the kind of girl who acts before she thinks. It's what comes with being a Purifier - exceptional strength and skill, the power to save lives from certain doom, and a short life, usually coupled with a morbid death. But it's all good. Dying doesn't scare her. Not really... When Kass moves to a new town and is forced to go to high school with her best friend and co-Purifier, Gabriel, she dreadfully plays the new-girl part, soon drawing the attention of a tall, dark, and handsome civilian. In fact, John acts eerily obsessive, and just a tad creepy. It never occurs to her that he's a simple human boy with a crush. In her life, nothing is ever simple. Nothing is safe. When Kass begins having visions again, a local child goes missing on the same night his parents are found murdered. All signs point to the supernatural, and Kass is about to learn that to fight darkness, she'll have to sacrifice the thing she wants most, the thing she never knew she wanted - a normal life.
