Assault Troop Series
This is the first in a series of 4 books about Assault Troop, the specially armoured infantry who precede the main advance to 'soften up' the opposition. Led by the rebellious Captain Corrigan, this particular troop form part of the 'Iron Division' during the 1944/45 European campaign.

The Mission
Sent over to France before the main invasion force on D- Day, they have the task of breaking through the German beach defences, linking up with the paratroops and then carrying out a recce into Caen, Monty's primary D-1 objective. Corrigan's force are almost all inexperienced in battle but he is determined to instil in them a fierce fighting· spirit to match his own. The landing goes disastrously wrong and when the beach rapidly turns into a slaughter house, Corrigan sets out without permission to join the hard-pressed Red Devils and to proceed to Caen.
