The Dumont Island Boarding House is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and is only accessible by car ferry. Most roads on the island are gravel, though the main road that travels down the middle of the island is paved. There are conveniences such as a general store, post office, souvenir shops, café, and a post office on the island, as well as a few cottages spaced along the amazing coastline. The boarding house sits on the far side of the island, with limited resources including electricity supplied only by generator for a brief time during the early evening hours, with gasoline lanterns used at night. Everyone knows each other on the island and they all like to take care of each other as a community of neighbors.

DeeDee Ramsey has lived on the island her entire life, and this is where she will be when she takes her final breath. Her husband Jack was her eternal love and losing him was the worst moment of her life. She finds solace in her early morning walks, where she communes with nature and seeks God’s guidance on every decision.
