When the family was threatened if they didn’t sell, sixteen-year-old Ervin smiled and said, “Mister, you picked the wrong family to mess with.”
His mother looked at him. “Ervin, you’d better hope to God you can get in touch with that marshal cousin of yours, Shorty Thompson. You’ll need his help.”
